Private Lessons--the fine print
The Paperwork
As with all activities, there is a bit of paperwork involved. If you'd like to get it out of the way before coming, get the student packet, fill it out, and bring it to your first lesson. It's a PDF file so if you don't already have the reader:Locations
The location is dependent upon the time of the lesson; I am at different locations on different days. The primary studio where I teach, The Garden, is in a private home near Zilker park. It's a terrific space overlooking the greenbelt, with a floated wood floor that's about 25' X 40'--plenty of quality space.
My secondary teaching space is at Go Dance, in Northcross Mall, near the southern mall entrance.
You'll find directions and maps on the locations page.
Make sure you know where your lesson will be. If you have any doubts, call Richard.
Paying for lessons
The current rate for private instruction is $60 per hour. The minimum lesson time is 1 hour, and additional time greater than an hour is available in half-hour increments. Payment is due at or before the lesson, in cash or by personal check. People with standing appointments may pay each lesson or monthly. If you'd like a receipt, please let me know ahead of time so I can print one for you.Lateness
- If a student is late for a lesson, their time does not start when the student arrives. The lesson starts at the scheduled time.
- If the instructor is late for a lesson, the time starts when the lesson does.
Cancellation policy
- Lessons cancelled more than 24 hours before the lesson are not charged.
- If a lesson is cancelled less than 24 hours before the lesson, the student will be charged for the lesson unless I re-book the time; any time (full or partial) that is not re-booked will be charged. For example, if you have an appointment for a 90 minute lesson on Tuesday afternoon, and you call Monday evening to cancel, and I am only able to re-book one hour of the time, you will be expected to pay for the un-booked half-hour.
- If a student simply fails to show up for a lesson, it is considered a late cancellation and will be charged.
- Lessons cancelled by the instructor are (I hope, obviously) not charged.
Tentative lessons
- Tentative appointments are for those times when one really isn’t sure, and there’s no way to be sure. A standing appointment cannot be tentative by default; they are intended for specific occassions that may interfere with one's dancing.
- A tentative lesson can cancelled at any time by either the student or the teacher, but must be clearly made as tentative before the 24-hour notice period.
- A definite booking at a given time will be given priority over a tentative booking at the same time, i.e. the tentative booking will be cancelled by the instructor if the hour can be filled by someone who can definitely make it.
Returned check policy
- Checks returned by my financial institution for Non Sufficient Funds or any other reason will be assessed a $24 returned check fee. This is to (precisely) offset the fee my financial institution charges me for the bad check I deposit.
